Learn how to create a new design inspired by nineteenth-century Victorian type styles, using period-appropriate fonts, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- [Voiceover] Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type Project: Victorian Ad. In this short course we'll create a typographic treatment in a style inspired by Victorian design. Using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, we'll create a pastiche inspired by this 19th century French perfume advertisement. In doing so, we'll look at choosing historically appropriate typefaces, and how to apply and refine several useful techniques, all of which are applicable to more than just Victorian inspired design.
These techniques include creating skewed path type, adding and refining offset shadows, adding woodcut shading, adding a frame and other decorative elements, and finally bringing the piece to life by adding texture. Let's get started.
