Using the Line Segment tool

- [Instructor] In this movie, I'll show you how to use the simplest of the line tools, which Illustrator calls the Line Segment Tool. And all it does is allow you to draw straight lines. But as we'll see in the next movie, there's a lot you can do with straight lines inside Illustrator. So the first thing I'm going to do is create a new layer to house my lines, and while it isn't absolutely necessary that you do this, it's good to get in the habit of creating independent layers for your designs. And it's often useful to keep your guides, which we drew in the previous movie, isolated to their own layer as well. So the first thing you want to do is make sure that you're seeing the Layers panel up on screen. Then, drop down to this little page icon at the bottom of the panel and click on it to create a new layer in front of the previously selected one.
