Use gradients

Here I'll share with you a few workarounds for getting gradients into brushes. There are a few different solutions for this problem. You can expand the gradient, you can create a blend, or you can rasterize your artwork. Let's look at how we can accomplish this. I currently have some art that I've already created on my Artboard. I have a flat version of my bamboo. I've taken that art and I've converted it into a gradient using traditional gradient fills. If I take this artwork and I try to turn it into a pattern brush, when I drag it into the library and select Pattern Brush, I'm going to get a warning letting me know that Illustrator does not want to turn this into a brush. It actually can't use this type of artwork. The reason why is because you can't use gradients within an Illustrator brush. We do have several workarounds.
