Understanding stippling
- [Instructor] Astute Graphics Stipplism allows you to quickly add and modify live stippling effects in your Illustrator artwork. You can add a wide variety of textures, lighting effects, and fine detail with just a few clicks. And with the Symbol Stipple feature you can use any Illustrator symbol in place of dots to create even more interesting graphic effects. Before we get into the details of how the plugin works, let's talk about the terms stipple or stippling. These refer to traditional techniques in drawing, painting, engraving, and carving, where the artist used many small dots to create a sense of shading or a texture like you see in this illustration of the sun. Stippling was common in print illustration where it could be used to simulate a lot of fine detail on an image using just one ink, like we see in this image.
