Join Sharon Steuer for an in-depth discussion in this video Understanding the Rotation Relative To parameter, part of Artistic Painting with Illustrator: Object-Creation Brushes.
So far we've been looking at how…the different parameters are set in Scatter Brushes.…And this time we are going to look at…a funky one called Rotation Relative to page.…And that is only found amongst brushes in Scatter Brushes.…And, what you'll notice is that with certain…images, the difference between Relative to Page versus Path.…I've saved these two brushes separately, so this is To Path versus To Page.…
It might or it might not make a big difference for you.…With certain images it might be just a matter of…well I kind of like that angle better than that angle.…But it's not really relevant. With images that are gravity-based, where…you sort of know which end is up, it's going to be a much more clear delineation.…So, let's do the gulls applied to this path, rotating it relative to the page.…And notice, the gulls are still hovering in a gravity…based manner, as long as I choose Rotate Relative to Page.…
If instead I choose Rotate Relative to Path.…Well now we're doing some Johnathan Livingston Seagull stuff.…
