- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type and Type Effects Using Illustrator for iPad. I'm excited to show some of what's possible with type using this long awaited iPad version of the venerable desktop design package. While it lacks many of the power features of the desktop version, this first release shows enormous potential and offers a really tactile and enjoyable experience, literally at your fingertips. This course is for users familiar with the basics of Adobe Illustrator. If you're an Illustrator user, you already know the terminology and conventions. It'll just take some practice to get used to a slightly different way of working. I don't have a crystal ball, but I think that Illustrator for iPad is going to become an important part of a graphic designer's toolkit. In the examples I'm showing, I've tried to push the software to its limits. I'm aiming to go beyond the nuts and bolts to see how we can use this important new tool in realistic scenarios to create great looking type. While it's possible to combine Illustrator for iPad with other mobile apps, in this first look I'm working exclusively in Illustrator to challenge myself and you to see what we can achieve in this fun, easy to use, and yet surprisingly powerful app. Let's get started.
