Type size and leading

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll talk about type size and leading. Now type size is fairly self-evident. It's the size of the type as measured from the bottom of the lowest possible descender, like the bottom of this lower case y, to the top of the highest possible ascender, such as the tips of these lower case l's. However, you don't want to take it too literally because it could be much more than that. It's really up to the font designer. Whereas leading, which is this guy right here, and, if I hover over it, it looks like the tip says, "Set the leading", but it's actually pronounced "ledding", for the lead that used to separate lines of hot metal type. Some people call it interstitial line spacing. I like leading better 'cause it's named after lead. Anyway, it's an absolute distance between the baseline. All these red lines here are base lines by the way. They're not really there, but they do support the lines of type.…
