Thought balloons

- Most of the dialogue will take place in regular word balloons but occasionally the script will call for a special balloon style. One of the most astonishing tools in the comic writer's arsenal is the ability to actually read people's minds, in what other medium can you literally see what someone else is thinking? Sadly the thought balloon has fallen out of style in recent years, but I still think it's so neat, I'm going to start this section off with it. So let's go back up to the first panel on this page of Astro City and see what the writer has in mind. So we can see here in the script, writer's indicated three captions, it says caption/vic so these are winged victories, internal captions. Internal narrative captions are kind of the trendy way to do things right now in comics but we like thought balloons so much I'm going to show you how we would do them in thought balloons and then we'll go back and do them as captions as the writer indicated, a little later on.
