Stipple photos

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll take a look at applying stippling to photos that have been placed into Illustrator documents. The first thing to be aware of is that you don't need high resolution photos to get good results with Stipplism. In fact, in most cases I'd advise against using high res images because it will take the plug-in a lot longer to render the effect when it has a lot of pixels to process. For example in the exercise file for this movie, we have this image of the Eiffel Tower. And if I click on it, I can see that it has really low resolution, 36 pixels per inch. This is way too low for most print jobs if we left it as is, but it's actually good for using with Stipplism, so let's apply Stipple from the effect menu. Let's try a high-quality setting like nine, a dot size of four, and click preview. And you can see that even with this really low res image, it still takes Stipplism awhile to process the effect. When it's done, it looks pretty good. It's definitely the Eiffel Tower that we're looking at here. Now let's click okay and try another one. We'll select this duplicate image, and again apply a stipple. This time, let's increase the density to 200% to eliminate the space between the dots. And we'll click sample object to sample the colors from the photo. Click preview. And then Okay. And when it's done processing, we have two very different effects that started from the same photo, and many more creative effects are possible by adjusting the stipple settings. Just remember that large or high res photos can take a very long time to process.
