Spot colors for special processes
- [Instructor] Spot color swatches are used for any kind of specialty production that's not part of the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black printing inks, and that could include spot varnishes, white inks, or metallic inks. These specialty processes are becoming more and more common because many of today's inkjet printers include these capabilities, but a spot color doesn't even have to be a color at all. In Illustrator spot colors are used to represent emboss effects, or foil stamping, die cuts for packaging design, and custom cut decals. This finished fool's rule illustration would make a nice custom cut decal with a white border all the way around. I've set that up already in the file. I'm going to open the layers panel so that we can see the die cut line that I've created. We'll turn this layer on here, and I'll select the art on that layer by clicking the circle here and switch to the stroke as foreground color using my X key, and we'll see that the stroke is filled with just a…
