- [Narrator] In this movie, I'll show you how to use the pen tool to create an independent path outline that lives inside the paths panel and our purpose here is to trace the volleyball using the pen tool which is why I created these guides in advance that show the proper placement of the anchor points and the control handles just so that, at least for the moment, you don't have to do a lot of guess work. Alright, notice if I once again select the ellipse tool and notice that this tool has a keyboard shortcut of U and that's true for all of the shape tools for whatever reason and if you want to switch from one shape tool to the next, then you press Shift + U. In my case though, I'll just go ahead and select the ellipse tool and that's because I want you to see up here in the options bar, this very first setting that by default reads shape and what that means is when you drag with the tool you're going to create an independent shape layer and we already saw what this look like but let…
