Pattern brush overview

Pattern brushes are great for creating complex, seamless patterns in real time, and they give you so many options. You can create a custom brush out of any pattern in Illustrator, and make your pattern even more dynamic and versatile, by turning it into a brush. Here's some of the things that we'll be creating in this chapter. Pattern brushes use pattern swatches to create the repeating pattern that appears in the brush. Here's some of the artwork that we'll be using in the brushes that I was just showing you. You can use pattern brushes to create intricate borders. You can also use them along open paths, or along closed paths, and you can incorporate capping the ends with additional artwork. Here's an example of a brush that we're going to use, with a a more complex cap end. This is the portion that we'll be using for the repeating main portion of the brush, and then the tail and the head are going to be the caps on…
