Organizing your data in a spreadsheet
Sometimes the data you'll collect for an infographic is straightforward, or even sparse, but often you'll be sitting on a mountain of information. I prefer to put all of my data into spreadsheets, so I can easily sort it, and look for stories within it. You'll also use spreadsheets for calculating formulas for the size and placement of elements you might be comparing in, for example, an area bubble chart, which we'll do in another lesson. In this video, I just want to walk through how I like to organize my data, so it can be easily sorted, and referred to while I'm illustrating. As you can see here, we've opened Microsoft Excel, and I've started creating a spreadsheet for our data. I've already filled in a few things, which I'll explain, and then we'll work on filling in some together.
