Organizing with layers
- Over the years I've found that organization is an extremely important part of the success of your projects. So before we begin drawing, I want to aid in the organization of our file by adding some layers. Now layers really help organization in Illustrator because they allow you to isolate artwork on a single layer, which makes it a lot easier to organize your artwork and make sure that you're editing exactly what you want. It also helps you organize related pieces of artwork. To kind of show you what we're going to be doing with layers I've opened up the finished version of the file here and I just want to focus on the Layers panel. You'll notice that we have four icons so we're using four layers to organize them. We have a layer for Journal, a layer for Roots, a layer for Upload, and a layer for Contacts. However, if I expand one of these layers for example, Contacts, you'll notice that we have three sublayers within this layer. One is for the detailed, colored version of the icon…
