- I like to think of textures as a perpetually free design resource available to anyone willing to spend the time to capture and use them. My fascination with textures started predigital in art school. When I explored an old abandoned hotel in downtown Seattle. And I continue to texture explore to this day. So I encourage you to do some texture exploring yourself. Whether your exploration discovers textures in an exotic location, or just down the street at your local grocery store parking lot. Be on the look out for texture rich environments. Old buildings, concrete walls, alleyways, floors, old wooden barns and junkyards are all good locations to start with. Create a list of potential locations and spend a day driving or walking to each and capture the textures you find. It's a fun creative habit you'll be able to use for a lifetime and it's even better when you do it with friends.
