Illustrator: A texture staging ground

- Just because software is marketed a certain way doesn't mean you need to limit how you use it. Illustrator may be a vector building program but it also works well for staging non-vector design elements like textures. Let me show you how I used Illustrator to create a very realistic painterly design. It's said that necessity is the mother of invention and that's kinda how this workflow came about for this project I worked on. This goes back a few years but currently at that time I was working in a small studio up in Oregon and our client was a t-shirt company and they were opening up a new store in Times Square in New York and they wanted to feature obviously New York-centric immagery on their t-shirts and so they asked us to create a New York inspired Statue of Liberty design and they specifically asked that it would be done in kind of a style that would honor Andy Warhol and pop art.
