5/27/2016The techniques are grounded in hands-on projects that give you experience with real-world uses for Illustrator, from converting hand-drawn artwork to vector graphics with tracing and creating logos with the Transform tools, to creating compelling artwork with nothing but the Appearance panel. Along the way, Deke touches on layers and stacking order interactions, patterns and gradients, scaling, dynamic effects, Live Paint, and Recolor Artwork. Plus, learn how to place photos in your design and edit images without leaving Illustrator, and set your documents up for effective printing.
As Creative Cloud evolves, so will we. Check back every time Illustrator updates for new videos, new feature reviews, and new ways to work.

- Hello, this is Deke McClelland. Welcome to Illustrator CC One on One Advanced. Part two in a series of three video courses devoted to your ultimate mastery of the world's most powerful vector-based drawing software. By which I mean, the one, the only, Adobe Illustrator. The One on One promise is to turn you into the best Illustrator user you know. For starters, you'll have me, a seasoned professional with more than 30 years of digital arts experience, and more than 80 video courses here at Lynda.com.
If that's not enough, I started using Illustrator in 1987, the year it came out, and I've been writing books and recording videos about this program ever since. Year in, year out, I've never missed an update. But of course, to make things work, I'm gonna need your help as well. Give me your time and attention and I'll show you everything you need to know in the order you need to know it. No crowded classroom and no scheduling conflicts. It's just you and me, one on one, any time that it's convenient for you to learn.
Now, as you may know, one-on-one is project based learning. That is to say you learn by doing. You'll start by converting some scanned line art to scaleable vector based path outlines using Illustrator's automated image-trace feature. You'll create compelling artwork from almost nothing, it's flat out magical, using the Appearance panel. You'll make a star logo, this thing right here, using the Transformation tools, you'll create your own one-of-a-kind emoji with the Gradient tool, you'll draw this interwoven ribbon with Live Paint, and you'll turn a circle into this elaborate origami flower with the help of Illustrator's unparalleled dynamic effects.
The result is a contextualized learning program. Illustrator's features are about to make crystal clear sense because you apply them, sometimes independently, other times in concert, to a clearly defined task, and you leave each chapter with a sense of accomplishment. I really hope there are moments where you feel, I rule, I can do this, and I can do more. One last item. Now that Illustrator is part of Adobe's ever-changing creative cloud, the old self-contained version number updates of the past have been supplanted by an ongoing stream of frequent and nimble enhancements.
And just as Illustrator is a fluid application, this is a fluid course. The entire One on One trilogy, Fundamentals, Advanced, and Mastery, every last movie is altogether new, complete with new projects and brand new exercise files. As time goes by, I'll sprinkle in new movies to address new features as well as new ways to work. So be sure to come back and check for new movies the next time you see your copy of Illustrator update. And with that, I release you to experience some of Illustrator's most powerful features as I truly hope you've never experienced them before.
Welcome to Illustrator CC One on One Advanced.
