Grid repeat

- [Instructor] Repeat is one of the most exciting features of Illustrator for iPad, and I'm going to use it to create an abstract typographic wallpaper. I'm beginning with this very stylized ampersand, which is in Boucherie Block. And so that when I repeat this as a tile, the spacing around the glyph is even, I need to, first of all, convert it to outlines. And the reason I'm doing that is otherwise the spacing would be according to its type bounding box. So I'll outline it, click Done, and then I'll come to Repeat. I'm going to use grid repeat. I'll position this on my art board. I can extend the repeat horizontally, and I can extend it vertically. If I need to change the size of my original tile, I can click anywhere to select one of them, and then I'll scale that down proportionally, holding down my touch modifier. I'll now deselect that and reselect it so that we can come back to the grid options. I can change the spacing numerically between the columns or between the rows, but I can also just do this by pulling on the pins on the pattern itself. Let's take a look at the different grid types. And to spice things up, I can also flip rows and columns. I'm actually going to make these characters overlap so that I end up with an entirely abstract pattern.
