Getting started on the refined sketch
- One thing I should point out that's realistic in terms of how I work and probably true with a lot of creatives is that when I'm doing this type of work specifically drawing out in a more refined form, I've already in general determined my shapes. I'm just cleaning up and improving them. And it's usually at this stage where I'll put on my headphones and I'll kind of zone out a little bit and listen to a good audiobook while I'm doing this. It's a good time to do that. I don't have to conceptualize or creatively problem-solve, so I can kind of entertain myself while I'm doing the task of drawing, which does take some time. (pencil scratching) So if you look at my aesthetic style guide that I include in the exercise files for the tribal course, you'll notice that one of the shape types are mimic shapes. And those are shapes that are executed in the tribal style, but they mimic real life in terms of a nose, or in this case, this art, in terms of feathers. So they're not exactly how a…
