Generating SVGs
- Probably the file format that has gained the most in popularity over the last few years for icon usage is SVG. SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics. And it's just that - it's vector. So for icons, it's a fantastic solution, because your icon can appear large or small without really any loss of quality. You're also able to use the same exact file for responsive designs for large screens and small screens, and SVGs can be controlled through CSS and JavaScript to give designers and developers an even greater level of control over them. You can even have things like animations inside SVGs. SVGs are extremely flexible, and that's one of the reasons why they're becoming so popular as a choice for deploying icons. So since Illustrator is a native vector drawing environment, you would probably expect its SVG capabilities to be pretty high, and you'd be right.
