- [Instructor] If you're new to laser cutting technology, a good place to start is with flat designs. Think picture frames, puzzle pieces, and cutting guide shapes for non laser cutting. Flat, cut-through designs can make incredible stencils for paint or finishing. Also you can easily create visual and physical depth by stacking and layering progressive section. I have the exercise file for this video open. And we're going to look at some basic intermediate shapes and strategize how to cut them best. Now, rectangles and other basic solids don't have too much to worry about. Those are generally cut and go. There's more to think about once you start introducing interior volumes or connecting shapes. For designs like this one, with interior and exterior cuts, you'll need to program the laser to first do the interior cuts. If exterior cuts are performed first, the workpiece can shift and cause the rest of the following cuts to shift as well. This will result in misaligned pieces and waste…
