Emphasizing words with typography tools
- Now that you've gotten the heavy lifting of placing all that dialog out of the way it's time to have some fun. This is the moment where you get to add emphasis to certain words, to interpret the characters inflections, make them scream, make them shout, make them whisper. The power is in your hands. So in the previous section we dealt with a lot of the responsibility of the letter, which is to get the dialog onto the page, make it easy to read, and keep it out of the way of the artwork as much as you can. But sometimes you get to use your power. Get to express yourself and express what the characters are feeling by making the words bigger, adding a lot of emphasis to them to help express what the characters are feeling. I'm going to start working on a new page here, this is from Elephantmen, you can see I've set it up with a job box, I've got the artwork in place, and my guides for bleed and trim.
