Join Mike Rankin for an in-depth discussion in this video Distorting textures, part of Learning Astute Graphics for Illustrator (2014).
- [Instructor] One thing you can do to make cool effects…with Texturino textures is to distort them…so they follow the shape of vector objects in your artwork.…And the way you do this is with Illustrator's…Envelope Distort feature.…Let's see how it works.…In our exercise file, we have this retro-looking room…with a big globe light right here.…And what I'd like to do is make that light…into a disco ball with a texture.…And to get the look right, we need to distort the texture…to the round shape of the light.…And I actually have two copies of the light object,…stacking one on top of another,…for reasons that I'll explain a little later.…
I'll just undo to put that back where it was.…Now, first we need to import the texture,…which is just a grid of squares.…I'll start by opening the Texture panel…by clicking on the Texture tool,…and click the button to import a texture.…In the exercise files, I'm going to select grid.png,…and click Open, click OK,…and then, accept the defaults here in the Texture Manager…by clicking OK.…
