Join Von Glitschka for an in-depth discussion in this video Determining the profiles of additional feathers, part of Illustrator: Digitizing and Refining Sketches.
- So, as I approach these feather areas,…I think my general rough sketch is pretty close,…but I think there are certain minimal detailing…that I can add to this, to kind of push it…even more so, in terms of a tribal style.…So, what really makes tribal style work nice…is not just certain types of shapes,…in terms of these hooks,…which are really characteristic of it,…but also how you go from a thick to a thin…is important as well, and I think on this one…I can add a nice little--…Because this is a feather,…a feather's edge isn't completely straight…or completely smooth,…so we can kind of play off that a little bit.…
So I'm going to add a nice characteristic of…alluding to that in this shape,…and then I'm going to curve it down.…I want to retain the overall flow and the curve.…I don't want to lose that characteristic,…but I just want to enhance it…by making the shape a little more interesting,…and then we will draw it down to a thinner,…so you can kind of see that there.…And then at the end of it, it has a hook.…
So, orient your paper any way you need to…
