Designing a title, credits, and a tagline

- Up until now, I've emphasized how important it is for the lettering to merge with the art, not call unnecessary attention to itself. However, titles and credits are your opportunity to stand out, to show off your spectacular design skills, create the perfect title to set the mood for the story to come. I suppose that's still serving the story, isn't it? Dang old rule number one. Here's the title page from one of the Astro City stories we've been working on. You can see the writer's indicated the spot where he wants the title to go, and he wants it to be big and bold and have some impact. It's okay if it covers some art because the title is generally the most important thing on the page. It's got to have some impact, it's got to draw the reader in and tell them what kind of story is this going to be. So when I'm thinking about designing a title, I start to think about, okay, what's the genre of this story and what's the feel of this story? Is it loud, angry story? Is it kind of…
