Customizing icon sets

In the previous video we saw how easy it was to load a complete set of scaleable icon fonts into our webpages. This is great for responsive design as it means that icons are text based, set with em units, and therefore are flexible. One thing, though, is that a complete icon fi, file can be very large, containing a lot of icons, that we may never need to show to our site visitors. To work around that we pick and choose which icons we need for our font and download a custom tailored font file with only those font icons. One of my favorite icon resources is IcoMoon. IcoMoon has a free icon set in addition to selling a premium version. They also have an icon app that allows you to pull in and use icons from different icon fonts on the web. You can select just the icons you want, which allows you to keep your icon font size to a minimum. Let me demonstrate. Go to IcoMoon.io.
