and then come over to my Shape Builder, and yup, that works just fine. So now to remove this piece, I've got to hold down the optional Alt key and just swipe over that. Let's switch back to the preview and you can see at the join, there are some unwanted anchor points that have been introduced. I will switch to the Smooth tool which is underneath the Shaper tool and then just go over those areas to smooth them out. Now, moving to our second example, what I want to do here is remove half of the A and tuck the A in under the Y. This one obviously inspired by the V&A logo. So I'm going to get my Line tool. Once again, I'll work in Outline Mode here. I need to draw myself a line at exactly the angle of the A that overlaps the edge of the letter and then another one right there. Now, I can select the whole letter and once again, using my Shape Builder tool, hold down my optional Alt key to remove that portion, that line right there, and that line there. Now, this one here, you see that when I remove that, things go awry. So I'm going to switch back to my preview, come and get my direct selection tool, and just delete that anchor point. And then we may find, let me just pop back to my Outline View that we've created an open path here. that we've created an open path here. I need to have these two anchor points selected and then I can come and join them together. Actually, I have a stray anchor point right there which I need to remove. Select those two open anchor points and then connect them. Now pressing Command or Control + Y Now pressing Command or Control + Y to switch back to my preview. Command + minus to zoom out. I can select just this letter and I'm holding down my Shift key, tapping my left arrow, to tuck in the A under thte Y. Now for my third example, I want to create an interlocking effect with the V and A. And I'm actually going to start out by deleting the A because we have the A as the V. We just need to duplicate that, press R to switch to the Rotate tool, hold down the Shift key, hold down the Shift key, and then spin it around. I'll now place one on top of the other. I'll change the fill color here to white. Choose my Rectangle tool, draw an enclosing square. I'm holding down the Alt key and the Shift key as I draw this. as I draw this. I'm going to put that in a different color I'm going to put that in a different color and then send it to the back. and then send it to the back. Command + Shift and the left square bracket. Now to create the interlocking effect, Now to create the interlocking effect, I will select the black letter I will select the black letter and add a white stroke to that. We can put the background color now We can put the background color now back to black, back to black, and then I'm going to select both letters. and then I'm going to select both letters. So I don't need the background included in the selection So I don't need the background included in the selection but both letters and come to my Live Paint Bucket. This shares the same tool space as the Shape Builder. When I click on that selection, I make it into a live paint group, which allows me to apply a color to that segment. Now, there is one slight problem and that this that the strokes don't look quite bright. And to fix that, I need to switch to my Live Paint Selection tool, select that first stroke, hold down my Shift key and the second stroke hold down my Shift key and the second stroke and apply white to them. and apply white to them.
