We've covered continuous line illustration before, but the subject matter of a buffalo was a very simplistic form to work with. Not a whole lot of detail and complexity to that. In this movie, I want to show you how to approach a far more complicated visual, so we're going to do a linear line portrait of Muhammad Ali. and that's where the process starts. The process starts with drawing, there's no way around it. If you tried to do this without drawing, you're going to get so frustrated, so don't even try. This is my drawing area in my studio. This is a light pad, it's called. It's about 1/2 inch tall, 3/8 to 1/2 inch tall, and it actually came with plastic as a surface and I removed that and got glass cut and put it in so I can cut on it with an X-ACTO, if needed. But this lights up, and it allows me to draw on top of things and to draw on top of old drawings and refine them as I go along.
