Join Deke McClelland for an in-depth discussion in this video Creating color settings in Photoshop, part of Illustrator CC 2013 One-on-One: Advanced.
In this movie, I'm going to share with you a caveat associated with my instructions in the previous movie. And the reason is, there's currently a bug at work. Now, given the very nature of the Creative Cloud, and the fact that the programs are going to be consistently updating. It's very likely that this bug will be fixed at which point we'll go ahead and yank this movie. But in the mean time, I don't want you to be confused. So you may recall that I asked you to save your Color settings inside the Illustrator. And then switch to Bridge.
Go to the Edit menu and choose Color Settings. And then select that file in order to synchronize all of your settings. Problem is right now, for reasons unknown, Photoshop does not support the Illustrator settings and this is a first, this has never happened before. But you will notice if you go ahead and click on this JPEG file, for example, in order to open in the Photoshop, you will see that Photoshop produces this arrow message. That says that the color settings file that you loaded in Bridge contains settings that are not supported by this version of Photoshop.
Well, it's not actually true. I don't know what's going on. But it does mess things up. So what you want to do is click OK. And that'll open the file as well, which is this sort of dreamscape in the background here. But if I go up to the Edit menu and I choose the Color Settings Command, again inside Photoshop, I'll see that I've reverted to my original settings and things are unsynchronized. Obviously that very disappointing, but it's very easy to fix. Just go ahead and change RGB to Adobe RGB, just as you did in Illustrator.
And then, that's it, you don't have to change anything else. Click on the Save button and let's go ahead and call this guy, instead of Best Work Flow AI, we'll call it Best Workflow PS. And not. PS obviously just PS and then I'll click the Save button and then I'll be asked be if I want to enter a description which is something that Photoshop does that Illustrator doesn't do. I'll just go ahead and paste it in a description and I've created an advance. These are the settings that Deke recommends in this one on one courses for lynda.com. They ensure consisting color and printing across all Adobe applications, click OK.
Click OK again, even though we're unsynchronized, then go up to the File menu and choose Browse in Bridge. And from Bridge go up to the Edit menu, choose Color Settings and go ahead and switch to that file you just created. Best workflow Ps. And click on the Apply button. And now, if you revisit that Command by going back to the Edit menu and choosing Color Settings, you'll see that things are synchronized. Good news. And now I'll go ahead and switch over to Illustrator by loading this file here, for example.
And Illustrator's happy. So I'll go up to the Edit menu and choose Color Settings. And sure enough, it likes the Best Workflow Ps file. So, no problems there. And, if I go back to the File menu and choose Browse in Bridge to switch back to Bridge. And, then I go ahead and double click on that JPEG file once again, switch back to Photoshop, Photoshop. This' obviously happy, because it's Photoshop's file after all, and I can confirm that by choosing Color Settings from the Edit menu, and sure enough things are fine. I'll go ahead and cancel out here, and they're fine inside the other application such as InDesign as well.
So, I apologize on Photoshop's behalf, but that's the way things are working for now. Again, as soon as Adobe solves this problem, which I'm confident they will. We'll go ahead and take this movie down and leave things the way I described them in the previous movie.
