Creating a basic sound effect - Illustrator Tutorial
From the course: Lettering Comic Books with Illustrator
Creating a basic sound effect
- In addition to dialog, comic books are full of sounds, from the smallest chirp chirp to the largest crackathoom. In the real world, sounds are happening all the time. Right now, you might hear people having a conversation or birds chirping or just the hum of your computer. The sounds a writer includes in the script are only those they've decided are absolutely necessary to tell the story. As the letterer, it's your job, sort of like the foley artist in a movie, to bring these sounds to life. So we're back on the page where we were doing our burst balloons, and now it's time to add some sound effects. Let's go to the script. You see here in Panel 1 there's this SFX. Stands for sound effects. It's a KZZKKT, I believe is the pronunciation. Back in Illustrator, we're gonna get our text tool, make sure we're on the lettering layer. Then, we'll go close to the source of the sound where Hip's punching into this wall. We're gonna click with the text tool and paste. See, our KZZKKT came in…
