- [Instructor] Let's see how we can use Guides and Grids to help us design a pattern. If I turn on my Guides; Command or Control, semicolon, you can see the framework from which this pattern was derived. So I'm going to recreate this. I'm going to move to a blank artboard, which is eight by eight inches. The first thing I want to do is divide it into quadrants. And for this I'm going to use the Rectangular Grid tool. Now because precision is key, rather than just click and drag with this, I'm going to click on my page, and specify an exact size, eight by eight. One horizontal divider, one vertical divider. Then I want to make sure that this has no stroke. I don't want the stroke weight complicating any of the measurements. And then I'm going to come to the Transform panel, and make sure that its X value and its Y value are both zero. Let me turn on my grid. Command, apostrophe. And I just will come to the Preferences, and show you that I have a gridline every one inch with one…
