Completing an open path outline
- In this movie I'll show you how to complete an Open Path Outline. Because as we've seen closing a path automatically completes it and returns you to the create cursor. But you don't always want to close path and without closing it may seem a bit of a mystery how you get the pen tool to stop adding points. Here we are back in Illustrator and we're looking at that Path Outline right before I closed it. Now imagine the path is still active and I'll show you what that looks like in just a moment. But we can see that the path is active because the pen cursor has no sparkle. Now this path is known as an open path outline and the reason is because its first and last points do not connect with each other. And such points by the way are called endpoints. Now in theory, one of these is actually the start point and the other is the endpoint. But that rarely matters in either Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop. For all intents and purposes, both points represent the end of the path outline. Now…
