Communicating with the Pen tool

- In this movie I'll show you how to use the Pen Tool, specifically we'll be creating corner points, which could not be easier to do. To create a corner point with the Pen Tool all you have to do is click. But I really want you to understand what's going on, because at any given moment in time, whether you're working inside of Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop the Pen Tool is trying to talk to you. And let me show you what that looks like. When you first select the Pen Tool you see not only the pen nib, but you also see this asterisk right here, which I like to think of as being a sparkle. Now it doesn't really appear green, I've just gone ahead and highlighted it inside of this diagram. Now I call it a sparkle because it's telling you that the Pen Tool is ready to spark up, or create a new path outline. Which is why I call this cursor the Create cursor.
