Cloud documents

- There's a brand new file format in Illustrator town, and it's called the AIC, Adobe Illustrator Cloud. Here is such a document open inside of Illustrator here. And you can spot a cloud document really, really easily because they have a nice little cloud in the tab bar, just there. Now this actually is a locally stored file that is synchronized via creative cloud, but you can also have documents that literally live only on the cloud and you edit them from there. So if I just pop across to illustrate on the iPad for a moment, you can see I've got exactly the same file open here. Now, just before we go back to illustrator in the main, I want to show you just something with this file. I'm going to quickly close it and then reopen it. So I'm just going to go back here and then reopen like so. You may, from time to time, especially if you originated the document on the desktop, see this notification because they're not quite there yet with all of the features. And I think this has a couple of symbols in it, which may well be the culprit for this one, but you might get that, but otherwise it doesn't stop me from working. You can still carry on working. It just doesn't particularly support that thing at the moment. And everything here looks just fine to me. So I'm not too desperately worried. Let's pop back to illustrator, and have a look at this document here, because not only is there a new file format, there's a new panel. That's just what we need another new panel. But this one's really, really useful, because one of the advantages of cloud documents, apart from the fact that they can be accessed on the go, oh, and the auto-save as well. That's a real big bonus, if they're on the cloud, they auto save, you don't need to do anything with them, they just save. But local files and local syncs, they do. But you can track the version history. And this is great for collaboration. If you're collaborating on a document, this new version history panel will allow you to access that. Now, in a moment, I'm going to show you how this works on the web, but just here inside of the panel, I haven't got any bookmarked versions. But you can see all of the different changes I made throughout today, and I could go back to 7:41 AM just here, and you can see at that time, it actually had the word, Seafront Town Houses on the front of it. And then as it went along, I got rid of that at some particular point around about 7:42 I'm guessing, just there, before I needed to, I could actually go ahead and restore or revert to this version here. Okay, and I could also give it a name. So let's say we had agreed on whatever date, then we could do that as well. And as you've seen, I can bookmark here. Now let's have a look at that on the web, because this is great as well, because you can share your document with your clients and coworkers and they can see it in the same way, they can access all of the different versions. So let's go back to 7:41. There is they're like, so. Okay, and go back to right now, like, so you can also say file info in there and you can comment. So let's just say I wanted this sea wall here to have some water. I could go ahead and get a pin, pin this particular part, commenting on my own work is hilarious. We need some ocean in there. Now my fellow Brits are going to be saying, it's the sea, that one button. (laughs) Not to worry, so we need some motion in there and I'll hit submit. And then I will get that comment and be notified that a comment has been made. It pretty much appears like that. And it will appear on my phone telling me a comment has been made. So really, really useful to do that. So how do you go about generating a cloud document? Well, that is super, super simple. All you need to do is save it. So here, for example, if I go ahead, go to the File Menu and come down to save as 'cause of course, this is saved. I can use this big button here to start off with. Although if I've already done it in my finder or my Explorer, you'll see a small button there as well, which says save as cloud documents So, if you're already saving on your computer, so I do that. You'll see you get a small button here, like, so that allows you to save there. It really is that easy. And if you need to work on something online, you can just download that. So if I just go back to my home screen here in illustrator, you can see that I've got a couple of different files here that are online only. You can just do exactly what I did with these two files and download them. They're in a snap really nice and I like cloud documents very, very much.
