Charging for your services

- So you've honed your skills, knocked out some fantastic looking sample pages, and you're ready to offer your lettering services. But how much should you charge? Here's some tips for figuring out a page rate, and what should be included in that rate, versus what you can be expected to charge extra for. Lettering for most comic book publishers is work for hire. Which means you'll be paid by the page. Large publishers have standard page rates for writers, artist, letterers and colorers. Usually with some room for growth once you've proven yourself. Smaller publishers and individuals or self publishers will likely ask you for your page rate. How do you decide on your page rate? Here's a basic formula. Number one, figure out how long it takes you to letter a typical page. Number two, divide that by the amount of money you believer your time is worth.
