Butting and masking balloons
- A big part of doing a good lettering job is simply getting the balloons out of the way. In this video, we'll learn how to use object masks to butt balloons to the panel border and cut them behind figures and other important objects. All right, to show you this next technique, I'm going to go back to the placements here and go to the last panel on this page, where you can see there's a couple of large balloons that are fitting in fairly small space, and they're definitely going to have to fit up against the panel border if we're going to fit that dialogue in there. So to do this, I'm going to go back to the script, and there's the dialogue we need to fit into this panel. So I'm going to do this, the balloons and the tail on this, pretty fast and just show you the speed I usually work at. I'd just highlight that first word, copy, go back to Illustrator. Grab one of these balloons. Option, drag it. Move it on down. Text tool, highlight, paste. Move that out of the way. Back to the…
