Join Deke McClelland for an in-depth discussion in this video Assigning gradient strokes, part of Illustrator CC 2019 One-on-One: Advanced.
- [Instructor] All right, now we're going to switch away … from gradient fills to gradient strokes … which are going to allow us to take … this partially completed illustration … and turn into this very angry emoji … and so, first thing I want to do … is zoom in on this little bit of mouth right there … and the easiest way to select it … is going to be go up to the View menu … and choose Outline or you have that keyboard shortcut … of Control + Y or Command + Y on a Mac … and that way you can just partially marquee this path … with the black arrow tool … in order to select it. … That'll just make for less confusion in the long term … and now I'll press Control + Y … or Command + Y on a Mac … in order to switch back to the Preview mode. … The next step is to go over there to Gradient panel … and select this stroke … and you can either apply a linear gradient … or a radial gradient, … I'm going to go with linear … and then I'm going to grab this color right here, … Orange 2 located up in the Swatches panel …
