- Hi, my name's Ben Bishop. I'm a comic creator. I've been making my own books since I was 18 years old and I've learned a lot along the way. Today, I want to talk to you about one of the most important aspects of making comic books, and it's often the most commonly overlooked; the words. Throughout this introductory course, we will cover a multitude of comic lettering concepts from a visual and compositional perspective. We'll discuss some rules for placing text, page layout, speech balloons, and narration and caption boxes.
We'll decide when sound effects are useful and create some of our own together. We'll also talk about how using less or more words can have different effects in certain scenes. I'll show you some great examples from some of my favorite comic creators along the way and I'll be demonstrating and visually brainstorming some ideas with you to see what works best. Let's get started.
