- So how did your light and dark drawing come out? Was this challenge difficult for you? If so, don't worry about it, the more you draw like this the better you'll get. Let me show you how I approach this challenge. So I start out with just a regular piece of cardboard, in this case, this is thin cardboard, but you can use any kind of cardboard, corrugated or otherwise. If you feel more comfortable about approaching this challenge by first sketching it out in pencil before you jump to black pen or black pencil, that's fine, you can do that. One pen I like to use on this is the brush pen, so I can just draw whatever I want to create using the brush pen, that works great. Another option is to use what's called a grease pencil. And they call it a grease pencil because it's very, very kind of slick, oily, and it's a deep black, and that's what this is. And it's almost like using a pastel, but you can get some nice gradation with that. And you're going to see an example that, in a few…
