Day 1 solution: Light on dark drawing

- So, how did your light on dark drawing turn out? Was it hard to draw in this manner? Do you like the look and feel of this type of drawing? Let me show you what I created for this challenge. When you first approach this, you'll have any kind of darker colored stock of paper. In this case I have black here and I prefer using the Sharpie metallic pen. It's nice and juicy and it really works well on a dark surface like this. It stands out really well. You can do any style you want for this challenge, I chose to do a couple different styles but I'll kind of demo how I work here. We'll do a linear style, I'll create a face here. (pen scratching on paper) That's kind of how it works with an ink pen. You can do any kind of motif, obviously. You can also choose to do your drawing with a white pencil, now what that's going to afford you is the ability to get some nice gradation going because you can lay down just a fine amount of pigment in order to make a nice gradation. They also, the other thing you can do is you could combine both of them, so you could use the ink pen and then go in and hit spots with tonality if you wanted to to that with the white pencil as well. A lot of different options and approaches you can take. The first one I want to show you is just this kind of graphic motif of a face. It's kind of a floral theme but it's handled in a very graphic style. This was fun to do, I created everything with the ink pen on this one, I did it on black paper here. This is actually something, after I created it I might go ahead and create this in a vector format at some point. I really like how it turned out in terms of the design. Here's another one where the color of the paper kind of inspired my approach. That is, it was brown so I picked a tiki theme and I used a completely different style of drawing in order to pull that off. This is a good example of one where I could go in and it doesn't even necessarily have to be a white, I could use a very light tan color and hit areas with a highlight and that would really enhance a piece of artwork like this. Your approach can be as varied as your imagination. I hope you play with it, I had fun doing this and I think you will, too.
