- Now the second one we want to talk about is what's known as a SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis identifies the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of any given situation. It's one of the oldest methods for determining internal and external threats to an organization and for showing how it differs from its competition. Now, strengths and weaknesses are internal factors that impact the organization's ability to achieve its goal or make progress towards its objectives. Threats and opportunities are external factors that are outside of its control, but they have to be considered when planning changes and improvements because they still affect you. A SWOT analysis organizes strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats into a chart with four different quadrants.
