- In this lesson, we're going to quickly cover the 34 practices in the ITIL 4 framework. But before we jump into these 34 practices, we should really talk about what exactly is a practice. You may remember from our service value system lesson, that there was a portion of the diagram that called out these practices. Well, a practice is a set of organized resources designed for performing work or accomplishing an objective. Now, each practice is going to support multiple service value chain activities, and include some resources based on the four dimensions of IT service management. Now the 34 individual practices in ITIL 4 are divided up into three main categories. We have general management practices, service management practices and technical management practices.
