The role of carriers in 5G networks

- [Instructor] 5G is a defined frequency range in the electromagnetic spectrum that is licensed by governing bodies of the world. Carriers are the large, mostly privately owned organizations that purchase the spectrum licenses and offer up their piece of the spectrum to users all over the world. Fundamentally, carriers acquire licenses to operate, build wireless networks, and provide users with valuable products and services. In the U.S., AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile are the largest carriers who build most of the nationwide wireless networks. The wide range of 5G spectrum variables means that each of the carriers is approaching the build out of their 5G network differently, while making the most of their present network investments.
