- Data in aggregate describes stories about communities and cultures. Data understands where value lies, sometimes where bad people want to disrupt things or make things worse. And we can discern what to do about that, all tied to data. So for me, it's really fascinating to look into how data is constantly organically moving, how we protect data, how we think about data, how we develop rules about data. And really, at the end of the day, data is a mirror of humanity. And what is more important to protect than data that helps us live our daily lives, that helps us record the history of our lives, and helps us really try to move forward as better and better societies for our kids and for future generations or people we don't even know. Data reflects value on all sorts of different levels. Maybe you've actually planned out your day, day by day, and you see on your calendar that your daughter's school play is at 7:00 p.m. that night. Data allows you to get to that play. It's not seven o'clock that's critical to humanity. It's that getting there on time for something that's important to your daughter, for supporting your family. Data gets us there. Data describes stories about individual lives.
