- [Instructor] Let's talk about the Cisco NX-OS devices and its onboard APIs. The NX-OS is a network operating system for the Nexus series ethernet switches and the MDS series fiber channel storage area networks. The Nexus switches are data center-focused, so this is where you will find features, such as multi-tenant overload VXLAN, virtual port channel, and other data center focus technologies. The original NX-OS was built on the Linux operating system, but underneath the hood it did not expose many of the Linux capabilities to the end users. The newer Open NX-OS runs on Nexus 9,000 and Nexus 3,000 switches, and Cisco starts to expose many of the Linux capabilities to the end user directly. Like iOS XC, and NX-OS also supports running Linux containers via the Guest Shell based on CentOS seven. We could find more information provided here.
