Wi-Fi standards
- [Instructor] When we talk about Wi-Fi, we'll often use letters and numbers to represent various technologies. It's common to talk about 802.11n, 802.11ac, and lately 802.11ax. These letters and numbers come from the definitions of different Wi-Fi standards as defined by the IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The IEEE a standards body, meaning they publish technical specifications that describe how technologies should be implemented, so devices made by different manufacturers can communicate with each other correctly. The set of standards called 802 define how local area networks function. And as a subset of those, the standards designated 802.11 or 802.11, describe wireless local area networks.
