What about job loss due to AI?

(upbeat music) - So the problem isn't just about a single robot replacing a human, it's about the whole system starting to get disrupted. You know, you don't go to the local place to check out a movie anymore. You can just get it from, you know, Netflix or Amazon or wherever. Your local shops are being displaced, something like near 40% of retail workers have been displaced by e-commerce. So what happens to them? I think it's something we should absolutely be talking about. The question is how do we have constructive policy that helps? And this is a conversation that's been going on, actually several decades. One of the things that I think we've seen is actually the speed at which technology is starting to move into places and how that is transforming and the rate of change that is happening. And that is the astonishing thing. And so we have to get ahead of this problem very, very fast. Many have argued that we're going to see a dramatic rise in employment. It's not clear that that's going to be overall true. It's not going to be uniform, being that if you work in an Amazon headquarters, yes, those jobs are there. But what happens to the local town where those jobs are happening? And this isn't just happening in the United States. It's happening in India, it's happening in China, it's happening in Africa. So it's happening all around the world. (upbeat music)
