- [Instructor] A website certificate is the magic behind what makes the site secure. It's the https part of the URL, which you see here in Google Chrome on the Google homepage. The S stands for secure, which means data transmitted to and from this website is encrypted, it's made safe for transfer. Even if it were intercepted, without the proper key and decryption, the information is useless. Now to confirm the security, you can review the website certificate details. In Google Chrome, click on the padlock icon, which is yet another symbol that this is a secure site. Choose Certificate, and here you can see who issued the certificate, Google itself, but you can also see when the certificate expires. Let's look at the details, and here you see that the certificate uses the sha256RSA encryption standard. This is very common, and it's a very strong form of encryption.
