- [Narrator] A proxy server sits between local clients and remote internet servers. It can be used to control which websites clients are allowed to go to, or to at least log which servers and URLs network hosts are visiting. These work with HTTP, but in special cases, can also work with HTTPS if configured correctly and SSL is implemented on client systems and the proxy server. As HTTPS continues to become the standard for web traffic you will likely find that in addition to a proxy server you'll need some form of SSL interception plan to perform an intentional, secondary encryption tunnel through which anyone connected to your network, who wants to access outside resources, will travel. I can't mention any of the large private and government institutions for which I have consulted that do exactly this to control what people can access while on their network.
