- [Instructor] It is generally considered a best practice with any kind of computer or network security, to always remain on the latest firmware. Security breaches, exploits, etc are found and patched all the time, and one of the most important things that you can do to keep yourself protected, is to continually update your versions. The problem is sometimes those updates to software on your firewall don't work, so I'm going to talk to you about troubleshooting those things when they happen. Because there will be times when your updates to new versions of pfSense just don't go exactly as planned. Troubleshooting those update problems can be challenging to help you out if that happens. The first type of error would be listed as for example upgrade will not proceed, or the upgrade process encountered errors with shared libraries, or even that the version offered is clearly out-of-date but when you check for updates, it tells you none are available.
